The WY-150V’s ability to work with a wide variety of materials, coupled with its robust design for enhanced rigidity and heat resistance, makes it highly adaptable across various demanding industries. These industries include aerospace, medical device manufacturing, automotive, oil and gas, and defence, all of which require exacting standards and efficient production capabilities. Here’s how the WY-150V has key advantages for these sectors.

Key advantages across industries

Time efficiency

  • Simultaneous machining reduces overall production time.
  • ChronoCut software minimises idle time during operations.

Versatility

  • Handles a wide range of materials and part sizes.
  • Ideal for both small and large production runs.

Quality assurance

  • Heat-resistant frame minimises thermal displacement for consistent accuracy.
  • High rigidity ensures precise machining under demanding conditions.

Cost effectiveness

  • Reduced labour costs through automation.
  • Lower per-part costs due to efficient, high-volume production.

Nakamura-tome WY-150V multitasking lathe

The Nakamura-Tome WY-150V multitasking lathe is designed for high-speed and precise machining, featuring Y-axis standard upper and lower turrets with opposed twin spindles. This configuration enables simultaneous machining on both the left and right spindles, as well as the upper and lower turrets, significantly increasing production efficiency.

Newly designed features for enhanced performance

The spindles and index units of the WY-150V have been redesigned, resulting in improved rigidity, which allows for machining under more demanding cutting conditions. To reduce the effects of thermal displacement, a heat-resistant frame structure has been integrated into the machine, ensuring stable and precise machining even under varying thermal conditions.

Software advancement: ChronoCut

The WY-150V comes equipped with Nakamura-Tome’s proprietary software, ChronoCut, which is now a standard feature. ChronoCut reduces idle time during machining without compromising accuracy, contributing to more efficient production cycles.

Enhanced machining capabilities

The WY-150V is the first machine in its class to support a φ80 bar capacity, with an optional motor power of up to 28/15kW. The standard milling motor offers 7.5/3.7kW output, with a maximum rotational speed of 10,000 min⁻¹. These features allow for the high-speed machining of larger-diameter workpieces while maintaining both high precision and rigidity.

CEO comment

Shogo Nakamura, CEO of Nakamura-Tome, introduced the WY-150V as the latest addition to the V series, which focuses on velocity. He highlighted the machine’s enhanced turning and milling capabilities, making it ideal for high-speed, high-precision machining. Designed to handle a variety of workpieces with chuck sizes ranging from 6 to 8 inches and bar capacities from φ65 to φ80, the WY-150V is poised to meet the demanding needs of modern manufacturing.
